Wren was orphaned at a young age, for his kind. To us mere mortals he was already an adult when he lost both of his parents. Angry at the world in general he scares off anyone who comes near him . . . except Maggie. There is something about her that calls to the man within the beast. Even the beast is tamed by her kindness. The only problem is that their kind of love is forbidden. No Katagaria can love or even care about a human. Wren is a strong, loyal, confused man/beast who has no one to turn to about his conflicting emotions. He's afraid he'll hurt Maggie in more ways than one. Maggie though will not give up on him. How can a human live in a world she doesn't know exists, with a "man" she thinks she's falling in love with? How can Wren give up the only person who truly cares for him after all of these long lonely years of being utterly alone? Wren is a lowly busboy in a biker bar. Maggie is a senators daughter. It can never work . . . or can it? Can Maggie stand up to her father for once and do what makes her happy ? Can her father ever except Wren, whom he thinks is below his daughters standards? Does love truly win the day?

A favorite
This is my favorite of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter Series books. I love the twisting plot and surprised ending as well as Kenyon's unusual insight into the mind and heart of the male Protagonist. Kenyon usually touches on what the males are thinking but tends to leave it somewhat vague and wanting for more but we see a more indepth look at a character you can't help but fall in love with. The fiercely protective virile man who would do anything to protect the woman he loves, even from himself. It's a beautiful love story and introduces a few new players in the Dark Hunter world while bringing out some of the oldies but goodies. Not recommended for people who don't enjoy science-fiction, mythology, sexual scences, romance, creatures of the night, and series that have several books in them.
