Das Fehlen einer theologischen Hermeneutik eschatologischer biblischer Texte wird bei all dem vielfach deutlich. Die mannigfachen Rezeptionen und Bearbeitungen, welche diese universalen Heilserwartungen in der europaischen Kultur, besonders in Dichtung, Literatur, Philosophie und Musik, seit dem Mittelalter erfuhren, werden wiederum in Beispielen prasentiert. Es wird nachgewiesen, dass diese Transformationen, besonders in der Literatur, von Beginn an haufig unter Einbeziehung nichtchristlicher Apokatastasisvorstellungen erfolgten.
