Seller's Description:
Spine darkened; some wear to extremities; overall a very good copy. 288 pp. With illustrations in color and black and white by J. A. Shepherd. 8vo, This was Joel Chandler Harris's own copy, with a 2-p. ALS to him from the illustrator on the letterhead of George Newnes Limited (English publisher) in 1902, tipped to the front free endpaper. Shepherd discusses the illustration of this book, and asks Harris to consider contributing a "humorous paper on Mr. Rabbit" to a new magazine. An autograph note by Shepherd indicating that he illustrated this book is mounted to the front pastedown. Harris's children ("Uncle Remus's children") have inscribed the front free endpaper in 1934, with a drawing of a rabbit. Also laid in is a 19th c. color postcard of Uncle Rumus and a little boy.
