[EN] Is it possible to reconcile faith and reason? Can a religious conversion be motivated by logic? Is it possible to induce others to reject their religious beliefs and through the instrument of reasonimpose the Truth upon them? At the end of the ninth century A.D., in the splendid Baghdad of the Abbasid Caliphate, the center of science, art, and philosophy, the Muslim Mutazilite Ibn al-Munajjim and the Melkite mathematician and physician Qusta Ibn Luqa, addressed these crucial issues in their correspondence. In his letter the Muslim author tried to demonstrate mathematically (burhan handasi) the truth of Islam and the miracle of the Koran by appeals to reason and aesthetics. In his response Qusta Ibn Luqa refutes his Muslim friend's argument point by point in a single clear dissertation by appeals to logic and Greek science.[IT] ??? possibile conciliare la fede con la ragione? Ha senso motivare logicamente la propria appartenenza religiosa? Ed ??? possibile, per via di ragione, indurre gli altri all'abiura, imponendo loro la propria Verit???? Attorno a queste domande cruciali ruota la corrispondenza tra il colto musulmano mu`tazilita Ibn al-Munajjim e il medico e matematico cristiano melchita Qusta ibn Luqa, corrispondenza databile alla fine del IX secolo dopo Cristo - in pieno III secolo secondo l'era islamica - nella splendida Bagdad degli Abbasidi, allora sede privilegiata delle scienze, delle arti e della filosofia. Nella sua Epistola, l'autore musulmano mira a dimostrare matematicamente (burhan handasi) la verit??? dell'Islam e del miracoloso messaggio coranico, messaggio ineguagliabile sia sotto l'aspetto veritativo sia sotto l'aspetto estetico.
