Some recordings of this kind reproduce the actual recordings made in musicians' own homes, but Un violon à Paris is a reconstruction, with 22 of Capuçon and Bellom's selections played in a Swiss auditorium; the sound is, therefore, a bit more conventional, and listeners in search of a pleasant drive-time album of violin encores could well choose this one independently of its story. Capuçon has a fine way of turning on the charm without being oversentimental in the likes of Massenet's Méditation...
