Two Sons is a story that refers to the battle of Passchendaele that took place in Flanders in 1917. However, it's not a detailed day-by-day account of how that notorious conflict took place. It's a story about the consequences of that campaign and how the lives of two families were dramatically changed following the battle. This book is based on a number of encounters that take place between a British and a German family in Belgium in the summer of 1932. The date is significant because in July of that year, Hitler and the Nazi Party were threatening to take control of Germany and there was a growing fear in Belgium of the possibility of renewed hostilities. My view is that this is a story that has never been told in any depth before. It's about the victorious and the defeated and how the dead of each nation is remembered or forgotten. This story does not seek to be pro-British or pro-German. As we travel along the journey of our lives we will experience joy, pride, despair, love, grief and the fear of loss. Two Sons is about the emotions, the passion and the feelings that many of us share, regardless of nationality, class, faith and status.
