Ahmed Khan, Resaldar of the 4th Cavalry, with several sowars, deserted from the English, bringing with them several thousand rupees; they made their way into the city in the evening. The King sent for the General Bakht Khan, but owing to pressure of business he could not attend. The King sent a tdwiz (a charm worn round the arm) to Ahmed Kuli Khan, with a verbal message to cover it with iron and bind it on his arm, and he would be victorious. Report said that three companies of Europeans and three guns had marched from Agra, and would encamp that evening at the tomb of Safdar Jang Khan, and would march in the morning for Alipur. The King visited the Asud Battery, and inspected the arrangements. Two spies were sent to Jeypur to ascertain if any force were coming from Bombay. Orders issued for the whole of the troops to parade in the morning. Three spies from the English camp were to-day taken in Mahommed Bakht Khan's camp, and were executed there. Two men carrying bottles of brandy in a dirty bag were arrested. An elephant from the English camp was captured and brought into the city. Orders issued to all the police officers to the effect that Mahommed Kuli Khan had been appointed Magistrate over the city with full powers. Good. No Jacket. Boards moderately soiled and sunned with soiling which somewhat obscures gold embossing at spine. Edge of front board has 1/2" abrasion through the linen to board below. Rear board has indent where the volume had been set for some time on some narrow object or ledge with weight on it. There is foxing to endpapers and flyleaves as well as the final page of ads. Also, light foxing to the title page and a few other pages. Having so described the book, it is still an internally clean and tight copy and gives a reasonable appearance. Large folding map at rear is present and in crisp condition.
