Plowden focuses on New York Harbor ca. 1970
A charming book on the working day of a traditional tug handling traditional ocean liners in the days before Z drives and bow thrusters. Plowden's eye is as splendid as always, and although the book was originally aimed at young readers, with the passage of time it has become an apt companion to his photo essays on the last days of steam railroading and traditional lake steamers. The reproduction standards are not up to the printing technology used in his more recent books but are more than adequate.
