With the exception of his one-off forays into blues and electronica, Truthtable is about as close to normal as any of Elliott Sharp's releases get; the driving abrasion of his work with Carbon has always had a little in common with extreme rock sounds, but Truthtable goes so far as to add a vocalist, a move which might actually attract the interest of a few particularly open-minded fans of heavy rock. The result manages not to seem like a watered-down combination of rock and avant-garde composition -- in fact, it hits a nice midpoint between both, with the more extreme tendencies of Carbon adding a great deal of interest to the rock, and the vocal "song" orientation adding a sense of structure and variety to the experimental chaos that makes many avant-garde releases so unlistenable to rock fans. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, Rovi
