Interweaving the heroic naturalism of Edna Ferber with the magical realism of Texas legend and the historical Sam Houston, Teddy Roosevelt, and other figures, Windle has transmuted her ancestry into a remarkable work of literary invention and popular appeal. "The story of strong women, proud women, wise women--Texas women. . . . that reads like fact".--Dan Rather.

True Women by Janice Woods Windle is such a good book. It is truly inspiring and belongs at the top of the list for best books ever written! The movie was done very well, but wouldn't have been possible without the book. Mrs. Windle is such a gifted writer. This is the kind of book that should be read forever, handed down from one generation to the next, right up there with great classics like To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
