This book is a very accurate accounting of the early days of Gay life and how the activist movement began. This includes mention of the Radical Fairies of Los Angeles. How do I know? I was there! Harry Hay was on a book signing tour in the late 1990s and one of the bookstores he visited was the Lambda Rising Bookstore at Dupont Circle, Washington. That store was only a short distance from my home. I went to that signing, the line stretched around the block, so I was glad that I had arrived early. I presented my copy of the book for his autograph, and I greeted him as an old friend. When I told him that I had been in his home during the late 1960s he stood up, yelled for everyone to be quiet and introduced me. He then wrote a special comment in my book cover.
Later I read the book and each chapter brought back many memories. It is a good accounting of the early years of the Gay activist movement.
