Excerpt from Traits and Stories of the Irish Peasantry, Vol. 1 of 3 With respect to the contents of this Second Series, the Author has only to Observe, that the volumes constituting the First Series had an excellent sale, considering that they were of Irish manufacture. They are now in a third edition, and much of their success may probably be ascribed to the fact of their never having been puffed; for no man excites more notice than he who runs counter to the fashion. It was, therefore, the brisk sale of the First Series, joined to a vacancy in the Author's purse, which he felt rather anxious to have filled up, that induced him to bring out the present work. He hopes it may succeed as well as the other; but that it may succeed better, is a wish due to the worthy and liberal Publisher who brings it out.
