English summary: Around the year 1490, in the court of Ludovico Sforza, duke of Milan, Leonardo da Vinci had already envisioned creating a treatise. Until his death, he wrote countless notes, which would lengthen, refine and complicate his project to the extent where it was no longer possible to properly structure it and render it publishable. Some fifty incomplete copies of this manuscript attest to the ideas and research of da Vinci during the 16th century. The first edition of the Trattato della Pittura , published in 1651, is the work of Raphael du Fresne (Paris, 1651). Written initially in Italian, then in French, it is based on a copy of the Codex Urbinas latinus 1270 belonging to Cassiano dal Pozzo. French text.
