I found this book to be extremely helpful. It is very basic. It explains how dogs think and what motivates them. There are lots of easy tips and tricks to make training part of all interactions with your dog. It concentrates on getting your dog to want to do what you want him to do, rather than control or force.
It's a great bonus that it is also alot of fun to read. It is laid out with Tips and suggestions in the margins, lots of cute pictures and is really quite funny too.
I have seen reviews that were not as positive, but they mostly said it was too basic. I guess this is not a great book for an experienced dog trainer, but for the newbie (or older child/teen) it's fun and informative.
