Traces of Mercy is a novel set at the end of the civil war. In the opening pages, the reader is transported to the battlefield. The Union and the Confederates are fighting what would be one of the last battles. A young sniper takes to the ridge to take out some of the enemies. Missing the shot at an officer, the sniper follows the officer with thoughts of confronting the man. When the sniper comes across an unusual scene, all thoughts from the sniper is to shoot first but something stops him. The officer hangs a Mercy pendant around the gun. He rides away.
After being taken prisoner, the news comes that the war has ended before they arrive at the prison camp. The prisoners scatter. A bruised and wounded young man is brought into Dr. Abe's office. However, all is not as it seems. After a brief stay with the Doctor, Mercy is taken to live at a convent. There she tries to remember her name, her past or anything that could help her. She has amnesia of which very little is known about at this time.
Mercy is afraid to make any friends or to fall in love. Despite this, she falls in love with Rand. But when a stranger shows up who seems to know more about her than she knows about herself, her happiness is put on the line.
The book is well written and really draws the reader in to the story. I really enjoyed the book and would love to read the next two books.
I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!
