If Toon Tunes: Funny Bone Favorites is a better listen than its companion disc, Action Packed Favorites, it's because the sitcoms and comedy cartoons were better suited for wild, catchy theme songs, which this deliriously entertaining 36-track collection illustrates. This not only illustrates that there were some ridiculously catchy, memorable themes for these cartoons, but that newer series like Dexter's Laboratory, Animaniacs, and Johnny Bravo carry through on the legacy of '60s series exceedingly well, not just in their themes but in the shows themselves. This also benefits by having several themes from the wonderful Jay Ward cartoons, including isolating "Fractured Fairy Tales," "Rocky and His Friends," and "Peabody's Improbable History" to their own themes instead of sandwiching them all together. Another important thing is that, musically, these themes are so infectious that this winds up being an engaging listen in its own right, even if you didn't grow up on these songs. That doesn't mean that Toon Tunes is for everybody -- it's for Gen-Xers who grew up on these songs and love the new series, or for baby boomers who loved the '60s series -- but if you're interested in this in the slightest, you will be thoroughly entertained. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Read Less
