All the living contributors have given their services and copyright owners have waived their fees. The royalties from the publication of the book go to the Royal Society for Nature Conservation's British Wildlife Appeal, which was launched under the chairmanship of Sir David Attenborough in October 1985 to raise #10 million with the motto "Tomorrow is Too Late".
