After getting his "chops" back in shape, Watters appeared with Turk Murphy's band on three separate occasions and recorded a studio album for Fantasy before permanently quitting. This CD (the music was released for the first time in 1994) documents the second rally and is quite exciting. Watters and trombonist Turk Murphy are heard with a group also including cornetist Bob Neighbor, clarinetist Bob Helm, either Wally Rose or Pete Clute on piano, banjoist Dave Weirbach, Bob Short on tuba, drummer Thad Vandon and on some tracks bassist Squire Girsback. The music is comprised of Dixieland standards and songs from the repertoire of Lu Watters's Yerba Buena Jazz Band of the 1940s and is played with high musicianship, creativity and plenty of spirit.
