Good training is not crisis management; it is what you do before the need to discipline arises. Most parenting is accidental rather than deliberate. Imagine building a house that way. To neglect deliberate training is to shove your child into a sea of choices and passions without a compass.

I could not believe the content of this book. When the authors got into their discussion of discipline, they actually discussed how to choose your switch and what kind of "switch" hits work for various behaviors. This book is barbaric! I understand "spare the rod, spoil the child," but that doesn't mean to abuse your child! I can't stand it when people use the Bible to justify mistreatment of others.
