At any rate, I'm off--and I'll never, never come back, never, never--so there!" And off he went without one kind chirp for those who had loved him and been troubled with his ways, or one regret for the pretty wee home that had sheltered his happy chickhood. Off he went, alone, in the pride and strength of his selfish heart and spreading wings, singing " Never, never, never again," as he went his joyous way, and, alas for him, "never, never, never again" it was to be, for, after a lively, happy darting here and there--now up, now down--his roving eye was suddenly caught by a grand spread of lovely seeds--not one or two, but a regular pile, only waiting to be picked up--and near by was a sweet singer crying, "Come, little birdie, come eat your fill; here is abundance."
