This is an excellent picture of life in Far West Texas. I capitalized far because that is what we call that area of Texas - near the Big Bend and Mexico. I don't know Apache Adams, but I do know people from that area and they are hardy people. These people are not lovers of comfort, for sure. Life is hard there. Of course, life has progressed a great deal for them, but to most of us it would still be miserable. I really liked this book, and my husband, being a cowboy himself reads and re-reads the stories time and again.
