This bootleg CD recreates the packaging and more adventurous song lineup of the British version of Through the Past, Darkly, but does it all in mono, which is cool since that's the way most everyone ever heard the singles on radio and is arguably the way they were meant to be heard. This bootleg CD recreates the packaging and more adventurous song lineup of the British version of Through the Past, Darkly, but does it all in mono, which is cool since that's the way most everyone ever heard the singles on radio and is arguably the way they were meant to be heard. The excellent sound reveals a wealth of playing detail on "Honky Tonk Women" and a slashing edge to "Jumpin' Jack Flash" that is lacking on the stereo version. The disc features eight bonus tracks, including the backing tracks from "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "We Love You," an early backing track to "Dandelion" (without any harpsichord, which is great because one can hear the guitar parts for the first time, not to mention Keith Richards' vamps for a guide track), "Cocksucker Blues," the final proposed single delivered by the Stones to Decca, and "Did Everybody Pay Their Dues" (the working version of "Street Fighting Man," "Memo From Turner," and the edited single version of "You Can't Aways Get What You Want"), but the highlight of the bonus cuts is the alternate take of "Brown Sugar," with a very prominent slide guitar part. All are in excellent sound. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
