I truly enjoy Anne Mallory's novels but I wasn't very impressed with this book. I did like the male lead, Gabriel Noble, but sometimes he felt too cold and calculating for my taste. Marietta was not a very interesting character. She is just a desperate woman who is willing to do anything to save her brother. There's not a lot to her.
It was a bit difficult to believe that Gabriel loves Marietta because of his rather chilly persona but by the end of the novel, the reader is closer to being convinced of his passion for her.
