Seller's Description:
Fine- 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. First published in 1936, this is the 12th paperback printing, from 1994, 512 pages. This book "is rich in details as to the customs and manners of three centuries. As for the educational questions treated, it must be said to Harvard's credit that there is hardly a controversial sore point in the whole range of higher education which has not been fought over in Cambridge during the last three hundred years." FINE-SOFTCOVER.
I was a little skeptical about this book, as it was published in 1936, and represents a rather outdated historiography. But it is a very nice read for people interested in Harvard's history. Morison seems to write from a whiggish perspective, and it's clear he sees Harvard in the vanguard of progressive American institutions. If you can overlook this, it's a valuable narrative history, very nicely written and entertaining as well.
