Sydney Thompson Dobell was a Victorian poet whose work exemplified the Spasmodic school of poetry. This short-lived movement, characterized by an emphasis on emotional extremes and psychological intensity, flourished in the mid-19th century. Dobell's poetry often explored themes of love, nature, and religious faith, using highly figurative language and dramatic monologues to convey his ideas.
