The Complete Capitol Singles Collection is a wonderful box set, but truth be told, while all of Frank Sinatra's singles and B-sides are interesting, many of them just don't merit repeated airings. The reason for this is that half the time Sinatra chose the material, and half the time the material was chosen for him. Not surprisingly, most of the material that the artist handpicked remains essential while the other tracks have aged into curiosities. This budget-priced two-disc Capitol/EMI release gives you 40 of Sinatra's finest singles, the majority being the songs that he wanted to record ("My One and Only Love," "Rain," and "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die"). A few of the songs selected for him that became hits, such as "Hey! Jealous Lover," are thrown in for good measure, and these end up giving you a good overview of the 1950s pop music scene. Unfortunately, a few essential singles such as "Witchcraft" aren't included on this set, as they fall outside of the 1957 cutoff date, but otherwise this is an inexpensive way to get 40 Sinatra singles in one place. ~ Nick Dedina, Rovi
