Well written! A First hand account of the finding and publishing of the Dead Sea Scrolls. John Trever the Original ?Indiana Jones? receives a request from an Eastern Orthodox Priest to look at a scroll he has. The Priest needs to accurately label it before storing the old document deep in the library of the church. The closing scenes from Raiders of the Lost Arc, come to mind. Trever quickly surmises the importance of the scroll and as a Professional Photographer in the field of antiquities he arranges for the scroll and the others that the priest has, to be photographed and thus preserved in the event of some senseless tragedy.
Our hero, the Priest and the Scrolls are in the Old city of Jerusalem, the year is 1948. The vote for Partitioning the City and the rest of Palestine, had been handed down just weeks before... The British are preparing to hand over the control and safety to a UN sanctioned authority, meanwhile Jerusalem is quickly becoming a war zone. (The partition plan was never fully implemented, and the ?Gradual? withdrawal of British forces and termination of the Mandate by August 1, 1948 did not happen. Instead, there was a civil war in Palestine, the British ultimately withdrew ? without handing over territory or authority to any successor!)
Amid the rising chaos, and dealing with the Black Marketers, Trever manages to obtain the only precious rolls of out dated film in all of Palestine. At one point, while laterally dodging gun fire and getting pass boarder guards, suspicious of anyone, he photographs the scrolls in the basement of a school less than a block from where the fighting has already begun. One man, close to the Scrolls, will lose his life.
Can Trever get himself and the photos out in time?
The clock is running for the Dead Sea Scrolls of QUMRAN, but it sounds more like a ticking Time Bomb!
