This is a book I checked out from our school library over and over again. The illlustrations are simple line drawings with a touch of whimsy. The story is very creative and full of magic and adventure. I remember longing to live in a countryside, simple cottage and have Anna Lavinia's overgrown garden and her wide array of pets. But most of all, I wished for her adventures. In this book, Anna Lavinia meets a boy on the other side of a pond, and jumps in. She meets a whole lot of characters and has many adventures in this imaginative, upside down world. This lush, overgrown, rich, country world was such a different life than my childhood in a homogenized, Illinois suburb. It was such an escape for me. I have the book in my personal library now and I cannot wait to share it with my daughter. I am trying to find an affordable copy of Beyond The Paw Paw Trees, which I hear is just as wonderful. Why don't they reprint some of these childhood favorites?
