Having run away from school in England, the author emigrated to Australia just before the outbreak of World War II. He joined the Intelligence Corps in the Middle East. After his return to civilian life he returns to England where he starts and establishes a club for Australians before setting out to sail a yacht from London to Tahiti. After 30 days adrift in the Pacific, he returns to London and organises an underwater archaeological expedition to find the city of Epidauros, about which he wrote in his book 1600 Years under the Sea. His adventures continue in Bulgaria, Angola and the Congo before moving to his yacht in the Mediterranean.
