I have been fortunate to take my family on camping vacations in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and California that at times paralleled the journeys Kit Carson made over 160 years ago.
He was a true American mountain man, guide, trapper, Indian fighter and soldier.
Above all he was as honest as any man could hope to be.
He lived an exciting life in a time when exploration of the untamed west was the last frontier.
