I enjoyed reading this in the original Spanish. It is extremely evocative of the post Civil War era in Barcelona and quite marvellously written. It is a difficult book for for the young Spanish who did not live through the period and my Spanish copy is sprinkled with footnotes explaining various references by Marse, which will probably be instantly recognised by older Spanish readers. This is a good faithful translation but without footnotes many of the references made by Marse in the original are lost to the reader, It is still a good read and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
