In the DRC, as in many other developing countries, the predominant use of the US dollar is partly a consequence of the country's economic, monetary and political instability. This book examines the economic, financial, institutional and social factors influencing this process. It also seeks to elucidate the fundamental reasons behind the process of combating the dollarization of the Congolese economy, and assesses the measures taken by the authorities over almost three decades.To promote the de-dollarization of the Congolese economy, it is essential to strengthen confidence in the national currency. This requires a prudent monetary policy, greater macroeconomic stability and effective economic governance. In addition, improving access to formal financial services and promoting financial inclusion can encourage the use of the national currency for everyday transactions.
