If you are a fan of alternate history or western novels, this series is for you. In this opening book the hero of the Indian Wars, George Armstrong Custer, is President of the United States. His son, an Army captain. is in command of an airship which is attempting to explore and map some of the unknown territories. The airship crashes in a storm and Captain Custer is captured by native Americans. This is where this well-researched epic really takes off (no pun intended). Especially recommended for anyone interested in American history, alternate history SF, or the Nineteenth Century American west.
