This lavish production is a must for any fan of the movie "The Dark Crystal". A huge book to grace any coffee table, it's crammed with full-colour illustrations and a fascinating text which could be considered a fantasy tale in its own right. It purports to be the first findings of an archaeological study of the world of the Crystal, in which human researchers strive to understand its strange artifacts and decipher the documents left by Aughra the seer. The mystical and spiritual forces inherent in the story, which are barely hinted at in the film, are discussed in much greater depth here. In fact, if you are of a mystical or occultist bent, you will find much food for thought! For the more technically minded, it is possible to trace the development of the film design through the illustrations. The story's evolution is highlighted in this collector's edition by the bonus document -- a facsimile of the original story outline (also illustrated), produced to show to potential investors. I've wanted my own copy for 20 years, and now that I have it, my only regret is not buying it sooner!
