Very Good Plus. No Jacket. Sheridan (1751-1816), an Irish poet, member of Parliament, and theatre-owner, is regarded as the greatest practicioner of the comedy of manners. At the the tender age of 26, he wrote the immortal "School for Scandal." These are Very Good Plus copies of the First Edition of his works, collected and introduced by the Irish poet Thomas Moore. Marbled paper-covered boards with leather spines (recovered, probably in the late 19th century). Clean texts; 398 pages and 408 pages. Very bright and supple texts, generally free of any foxing. With bumped corners, minor rubbing, and the occasional small chip, these remain solid copies, and quite a delight to read. Size: 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.
