Fair is the face of nature, deck'd by thee, Calling sweet beauty from deformity; And rich the store thy bounteous hand supplies, That, meant for all, o'er all creation lies; Where good and ill, together mix'd, yet prove Agents alike of bliss to all that move--Th' unsightly lovely, neath thy plastic hand, The noxious friendly, at thy blest command; By thee converted, deadly poisons heal, And things most hurtful most effect our weal; All fitly harmoniz'd, with wond'rous skill, To work mysteriously thy sov'reign will, Whose all-designing reason, still the same, By means diverse attains one glorious aim; Purpose of Him from whom all beings flow, The common happiness of all below.
