He knocked Mrs. Pounce's hand aside, and saved the letter from falling into her clutches. Mrs. Pounce saw herself turned out, so in for a penny in for a pound. She set her arras akimbo, and tossed her head. Thus, without modest diffidence, she dawned upon Mr. Bosc as a younger and better-looking woman than she had hitherto found it convenient to appear, but a very different woman from Responsible Pounce.
