I've very much enjoyed many of Le Guin's novels and other short stories - this is my favorite.
Following her witty, personal little introductions to each story, she presents us weird, poignant, believable worlds.
Compared to other science fiction or fantasy, the believability of Le Guin's work is distinctly hers; her uncommon worlds are consistent and concrete, amazing but true.
One of the things that holds them together is her beautiful perceptions of human (or other) nature. She shows us everything we'd like to deny -warts and worse - yet decency, even nobility, prevail: shining souls in rich strange settings so carefully and rationally constructed.
