Seller's Description:
Very Good in Near Fine jacket. 385p. Original cloth. dj. 21 cm. Wide-flapped jacket bright and attractive with only a couple of neat creases and minimal wear. Small creased tear along fore-edge of half-title leaf. Pictorial front endpaper. Contents sound and clean with only modest age-toning. Neatly SIGNED on the blank recto of the frontis leaf by Micheaux ("Sincerely, Oscar Micheaux"). "For more than a generation, Colored America has been crying for the great romantic novel of contemporary Negro Life. The Wind from Nowhere is the answer to that cry. Free of any kind of depressing 'Negro Problem isms, ' and in addition to being easily the most beautiful love story of Negro life that has ever been told, the story is tremendously inspiring and the end--like only a great inspired novel could have! " [statement on front flap]. Statement on title-page: "On his ranch in the vast wilderness of the great northwest, where he alone was black, dwelt Martin Eden, young negro man of conquest. The strangest love story ever told." According to Max Whitemen's biblography, the story line in this novel, first published in 1941 and set primarily among the non-Indian homesteaders in "Rosebud Country" in South Dakota, is quite reminiscent of Micheaux's first two novels ("The Conquest" and "The Homesteader") published in 1913 and 1915. It is unlikely that there were actually 10 printings (or "editions") of "The Wind from, Nowhere."
