"Nothing less than a cultural revolution." - Deborah Levy The twenty-eighth issue of The White Review, a London-based art and literature magazine. Produced for the first time entirely in black and white, this issue of The White Review is printed in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. It presents wide-ranging interviews with Lucy Ellmann, author of the Booker-shortlisted novel Ducks, Newburyport, Percival Everett, author of I Am Not Sidney Poitier, and the acclaimed performance artist Simone Forti. New fiction by Lauren Aimee Curtis, a deadpan account of friendship and paranoia; Koen Sels's candid dissection of insecurity, fatherhood and climate change, translated from Dutch by Liz Waters; and Mohamed Makhzangi's surrealist eco-fiction exploring the mysterious rabbits who haunt the site of a military crackdown, translated from Arabic by Chip Rossetti. Kevin Brazil interrogates the ways in which writers of science fiction have explored the utopian possibilities -- and drawbacks -- of a 'gay planet'. Meena Kandasamy traces the roots of her political and literary consciousness to growing up amid civil war in Sri Lanka, and describes her attempts, as a filmmaker, to gather testimony from women involved with the Tamil Tigers. Poetry series are contributed by Sarah Barnsley, Valzhyna Mort, and Kaleem Hawa, whose portfolio was the winner of the White Review Poet's Prize 2019. Series of artworks are presented from Joanna Piotrowska, Rinus van de Velde (in collaboration with Koen Sels), and Dionne Lee, whose work features on the cover.
