This book is FUN.
Perfectly recreates the feel of 1941 Cleveland (or any other industrial US city). We're on the brink of War, but for three High School Buddies, it's a carefree Labor Day Weekend. Swimming in Lake Erie, after dark, long after the Beach closed, a boat approaches- no running lights. Voices in the dark are German. Two figures slip over the side and swim toward shore.
Thus begins an adventure that involves National Security, Nazi Spies where you least expect them, Crimestopper Eliot Ness (Cleveland's Safety Director at the time), the legendary Cleveland Air Races...and many more spot-on historical references.
Tight, well-written, entertaining read.
