This book was recommended to me by a dear friend, and I was delighted that I picked it up to read the other day. I couldn't put it down! Curtis took me back to my childhood with accurate emotion and thinking. No matter what culture you are from, there are just universal behaviors and psychology, especially when it comes to the bizarre perceptions of children. My favorite scene was the Watson's stop in the Appalachian mountains...funny how timeless the experience is for any person caught in their majestic beauty and eerie darkness. I highly recommend this book to anyone because of the beauty and truth of Curtis's words. Not only does this book capture a moment in history, but it also captures the highlights and pitfalls of growing up. I look forward to reading more of Curtis's books; his first book was exceptional!
