Selina Farleigh Bowen loved Michael's letters, even if she couldn't read them herself. A friend read them to her, and wrote her replies--but apparently that "friend" left things out, like Michael's dream of a wife who was nothing like her. Selina won't change who she is, not even for the man she loves. Yet time might show Michael the true value of his unlikely wife.

Michael Bowen has been writing to a young woman (Selina) who answered his ad for a wife. They continued to communicate with each other until they decided they were ready to marry.
Because Selina?s father refused to allow her to travel to Idaho unmarried, Michael and Selina married separately by proxy. Now, Michael is waiting at the train depot for the woman he?s learned to love. He is absolutely flabbergasted when his eyes rest on a tiny woman in pants and hat, with a rifle at her side. And then she speaks!
Selina?s Kentucky drawl rocks Michael?s world; she is nothing like the woman he envisioned while writing. Then he finds out that she cannot read or write. How did she write all those lovely letters?
Selina?s best friend, Aimee had written the letters ? paraphrasing what Selina wanted to say. However, after reading a couple of them to Selina, she understands the problem. The letters sounded like Aimee ? not Selina. Michael had fallen in love with Aimee, not her.
Thus begins an interesting story about learning to accept what is given to us, instead of what we think we want.
This novella is a quick read ? at less than 200 pages. Debra Ullrick is a talented author with a real eye for detail and dialog. 3.5 stars
