Maintaining an obsession with all things '80s electro-pop and a keen love for Detroit techno, Turbo sees to it that their product meets only the highest dancefloor standards. Truly, this is a disc of incredibly sophisticated electronic dance music. Leading off the record is a warmed-up cover of Inner City's seminal techno track "Good Life." This cover, rather than remix, showcases producer Thomas Schumacher's skills so well that you'll be stunned to find out that it is self-produced. Turbo producer Tiga, who has compiled other brilliant discs for the label, also shows up to contribute his '80s-inspired ode to Miami Vice cheesiness, "Crockett's Theme." And electro prankster the Vandal turns in a stirring rendition of U2's "New Year's Day" with synthed-up rhythms and thick, analog beats. Other standouts on Turbo Studio Sessions, Vol. 2 include Swayzak's spare, melancholic "State of Grace," which features the warm yet icy vocals of Kirsty Hawkshaw, and Adam Beyer's dark and shuffly "Those Funny Moments." Essentially, the disc is threaded together with a consistent dedication to quality. Every track here is outstanding and is certainly worth its space in any CD shelf or DJ crate.
