This is a good read and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The movie, The Towering Inferno" with Steve McQueen is not as good as the book, The Tower. If you like this one then be sure to read other books by Richard Martin Stern.

The Tower
The book though it was written approx. 34 years ago its message is a universal one. The real springboard that the author used is not known, excepting that it is a skyscraper in Ney York city not far from the World Trade Center-Twin Towers, which was used in the rescue attempt from the burning 125 story building. There was a mixture of romance, adultery, intrigue, murder as well as striving for excellence, meeting of strict deadlines, and the pressures of construction. The building was on the outside perfection, but the electrical system was constucted of substandard materials, excape routes in case of fire were blocked by construction materials, and a disgruntled employee through his act of vandalism and sabotage showed up every defect in the structure when it caught on fire 66 stories above ground. This was one of the two books used to make the film towering inferno.
