Super satisfying read and my first to read from Cherie Priest personally. I have to say it was great. It was not REALLY heavily a horror, but kind of a supernatural monster tale of sorts more on the suspense/mystery side for the majority of the story. The characters are lovable, but pretty tropey. However, I wasn't at all disappointed. The story progressed in what I felt a satisfying pace without any drag, with just enough development spent on each character. The monster was also described in a pretty interesting way that felt like it wasn't exactly what I expected. It served its purpose as a quick, interesting tale about a town terrorized by this cryptid, and I definitely plan on adding it to my personal collection and reading some of her other works.
