" In considering the civil and political geography of the Arabs, let information be given respecting their food, dress, habits, government, and division into tribes. Let the present state of literature among them, be compared with its advancement during the middle ages. In referring to the religion of Arabia, its author, Mohammed, will naturally become an object of interest. Let a brief sketch of his life be given, and his distinguishing characteristics be noticed, together with those qualities which enabled him to acquire and maintain so great an influence over his countrymen, and those extraneous circumstances which facilitated the propagation of his religion. Some of the tenets which he inculcated may be mentioned, and the points of resemblance between Islamism and our own creed, noticed." It will-not be worth the while to broach these subjects until the class has become familiar with the physical geography of the world. CHAPTER X. Errors respecting English Grammar.--Can Children study it?--Mode of Teaching it. English Grammar is generally defined to be " the art of speaking and writing the English language correctly." This, I think, is only a partial view of the subject. Many persons get an idea that English grammar has no practical value except to those who intend to be authors, public speakers, or teachers.
