Achieving her lifelong dream of attending college, Phebe was admitted and received a scholarship to Carleton College in Minnesota in 1886, at the age of 27. Studying Literature, Spalding graduated in three years finishing as one of the top students in her class. In 1889, Spalding moved to Claremont, hired by Pomona College to teach Latin, German, English composition, and English literature. She writes here about the San Jacintos, a mountain range in Riverside County, east of Los Angeles, California.
