This was one of Alex North's best jazz-based soundtracks, and that's saying a great deal, given his previous work on A Streetcar Named Desire and The Long Hot Summer. In contrast to most of the work in this soundtrack genre of the era, which grafted jazz onto standard orchestral elements, North weaves the jazz elements through the entire body of the music, including the haunting "Quentin's Theme" (which ought to have been extracted as a single from this body of music).
