This work was the most popular children's work by this author. Illustrated with one plate. Written by Barbara Hofland. Hofland was the author of sixty-six moral stories for children. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper, 'Sarah Fenley, Melton, July 29 1816'. Incomplete, lacking pages 1 and 2, starting mid-sentence on page 3. Undated, dated from Copac from a copy held at Cambridge University. In a quarter crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Some loss to paper to the extremities. A little bumping to the extremities. Some loss to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with just a couple of light spots. Lacking pages 1 and 2. Closed tear to page 27/28, with evidence of being formerly repaired, tear is across text but text is still legible. Small amount of loss to the tail of page 39/40 to the bottom and for edge, affecting seven lines of text, though the chipped piece of text is loosely inserted in the text. Good Only.
